Several congenital anomalies require the involvement of pediatric surgeons, including anomalies of the digestive system, abdominal wall defects, and various growths, among others.
Among the common anomalies, we can mention:
1. Atresia of the digestive system: The digestive system is essentially a continuous tube from the mouth to the anus. In cases where there is an obstruction or discontinuity of a segment of the digestive tract, the passage of feces, liquids, and food is not possible. This condition is called atresia. The blockage can occur anywhere along the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus. Such anomalies require surgical correction shortly after birth.
2. Often, completing the diagnosis and determining the appropriate treatment is possible only after birth. However, early prenatal identification of abnormal findings in the digestive system (such as abnormal loops of the intestines) allows for prompt and proper management of the anomaly immediately after birth.
