Shaare Zedek Medical Center
Introducing Shaare Zedek
Shaare Zedek is the largest multi-disciplinary medical center in Jerusalem, offering advanced services in most specialties. With a constant commitment to improve and provide our patients with the best possible care, the 1000-bed facility treats hundreds of thousands of patients per year in its 30 departments and 70 out-patient clinics .
2020’s activities were defined by the Corona crisis which directly affected all aspects of the hospital’s operations. Included was a temporary reduction of services in some areas of the hospital as a result of government-imposed departmental closures as well as an overall reduction in patients as a result of lockdowns and other factors outside of the hospital’s control.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center will continue to maintain a high level of medical services while respecting human dignity and showing compassion.
- Will keep training excellent medical professionals.
- Will go on preforming innovative medical research and serve as a model of excellent medical conduct while observing the values of Jewish heritage.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center is a registered non-profit association and managed by an international board of directors. The board decides on issues of hospital policy, approves the budget and development plans, appoints the Director General and guides the administrative forum.
The Board of Directors appoints the Executive Committee that meets four times a year and accompanies the execution of all decisions. The Executive Committee appoints the Standing Committee that routinely accompanies the CEO and the administrative forum.
Prof. Ofer Merin, SZ Director General, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the hospital and the execution of all decisions made by the Board of Directors. The administrative forum includes five deputy CEOs (finance, administration and human resources, nursing and two medicine deputies) and the directors of the administrative divisions.

Looking to the Future
Shaare Zedek receives no financial support from the Israeli government. It relies on the generosity of friends around the world to fund research, upgrade vital equipment and continuously maintain and further expand its facilities.
As we continue to grow, we are fully committed to the highest standards of international medicine and the compassionate care that has been our trademark for over 115 years. We will strive to constantly improve, innovate and work hard to maintain our position at the forefront of medicine in Israel and around the world.
