Pulmonary function tests

Pulmonary function tests in children allow the assessment of respiratory health and assist in clarifying respiratory complaints. For instance, diagnosing asthma or other lung diseases can be accomplished through pulmonary function testing. These tests also aid in monitoring patients undergoing medical treatment. Patients who are preparing for various types of surgeries and need to evaluate their ability to tolerate complete anesthesia also undergo pulmonary function testing.

These tests are intended for children above the age of 6.

The following tests are conducted in the laboratory: (The tests are not painful or dangerous)
Simple spirometry with bronchodilator response assessment.
Lung volume measurement, including diffusion testing.
Methacholine challenge test (for asthma diagnosis).
Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction test (for asthma diagnosis).
