How to purchase a device for clubfoot (FAB):
When to purchase?
The device should be purchased before returning to the clinic (within three weeks after the Achilles tendon lengthening procedure).
Different devices are manufactured by various companies, and there is no information about the superiority of one type over another.
Which device to buy?
The devices have various names: Boots & Bar, Foot-Abduction-Brace (FAB), Denis-Browne Bar, or other names. They are produced by different manufacturers, some of which have importers/agents in the country, while others can be purchased online.
The "Health Basket" defines that these devices are included in the "Basket," and therefore, the baby is entitled to a refund for the device's cost. However, there are sometimes issues with receiving the refund for various reasons. Insist on obtaining the reimbursement (with a receipt and prescription).
The shoe and bar sizes will be determined by the treating team (if purchased online, it's important to get the measurements from us).
How to make the purchase?
Purchase from MedMitchell: www.mdorthopaedics.com. Choose the appropriate Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) size as measured and the color. The purchase is made in pairs. Choose the Dobbs bar in the regular size.
Purchase Alfa/Beta Flex from the company Semeda: The importer is Steriad Orthopedics, and the agent in our area is Ayelet Post, 054-2026016. She will fit the size and send the device to you.
Purchase devices from different companies is also possible with Valery Zhibutovsky, 050-7874326. His clinic is in Talpiot, Jerusalem.
ADM device (a new type, unilateral): https://c-prodirect.com/. Only use this device in cases where we explicitly determined that it's necessary. The product to select on the website is "Non-Ambulatory ADM, Unilateral including Night Orthosis" (listed on page 2). You need to provide the foot length, STJ, TTJ (soft) pronation, and other details as you receive from us.
How to get a reimbursement for the purchase?
Each health fund or insurance company has its reimbursement terms. You need to submit the purchase receipt with a signed prescription from us.
