About
The clubfoot, also known as talipes equinovarus, is one of the most common orthopedic deformities in newborns. This condition occurs when the foot tendons develop in an abnormal manner, preventing the foot from reaching its full length. As a result, the soles of the feet turn inward.
At the Pediatric Orthopedics department of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, we have accumulated extensive experience in treating newborns with clubfoot. Our treatment approach follows the method developed by Dr. Ignacio Ponseti, a pediatric orthopedic specialist from Iowa, USA, who pioneered the use of a series of plaster casts for clubfoot treatment. This technique is currently considered the leading non-surgical approach worldwide for managing this condition.
