Pediatric Endocrinology

The Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic and the Multi-Disciplinary Clinic for Juvenile Diabetes treat children with a range of hormonal problems, including stunted growth, sexual maturation disorders, thyroid, pituitary and adrenal gland problems, specific problems in adolescent girls and obesity. In addition, the unit operates a multi-disciplinary clinic for juvenile onset diabetes (Type 1), which provides professional treatment for the diabetic child and his or her family as well as connecting the family to other support systems in and outside the hospital.

The clinic treats children with hormonal problems such as:

  • Sexual maturation problems, early or delayed sexual maturity
  • Stunted growth
  • Congenital or acquired thyroid deficiencies
  • Congenital or acquired deficiencies in the pituitary gland (hypophasis)
  • Congenital or acquired adrenal gland deficiencies
  • Problems particular to adolescent girls (menstrual disorders, excessive hair)
  • Obesity

 

The Unit also provides a consultancy service for other units in the department treating children with chronic diseases, especially chronic kidney failure, genetic problems, Prader-Willi Syndrome and conditions involving spasms and convulsions.
