Shaare Zedek is the only medical center in Israel to offer the ERCP test - a special test for the biliary tract - for young children (performed by Dr. Dov Wengrower), and one of three centers participating in the testing of a new hepatitis medicine for children.
The unit participates in several other researches regarding the pediatric liver, among them a study of a substance that prevents drug poisoning that has a potential to treat chronic liver diseases, and a study that tests the potential of liver cell transplant in children that require a new liver but can't undergo a full liver transplant. Several prominent research centers abroad take part in the latter study.
