Octreotide and Terlipressin

Octreotide and Terlipressin are two devices with slightly different mechanisms of action, yet they share some similarities. Both are effective for the acute treatment of bleeding resulting from portal hypertension in the liver.

Octreotide is administered through injection, while Terlipressin is given in repeated doses. The treatment lasts for several days during the critical period after bleeding, also aiming to prevent recurrent bleeding.

The use of Octreotide and Terlipressin can be life-saving, but it may also lead to certain side effects such as headache, fever, nausea, or changes in blood sugar levels.
