Direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) are a novel group of antiviral medications used to treat hepatitis C. There are several DAAs available, all administered in combination with peginterferon alpha and another antiviral drug. The therapeutic regimen is usually extended over several months to a year, and sometimes it is associated with side effects, including flu-like symptoms, fatigue, or specific changes in the skin. The attending doctor will carefully monitor these side effects.
