Women's urology

Neuro-urology and pelvic floor dysfunction specialize in diagnosing and treating functional disorders in the urinary system caused by neurological conditions. This field addresses two main groups of patients:

1. The first group includes disorders related to overactivity of the lower urinary tract (bladder, sphincters, urethra) due to dysfunction between the brain and the lower urinary tract or sensory abnormalities. Conditions in this group include overactive bladder syndrome, chronic lower abdominal pain (pelvic pain), chronic dysuria, lower abdominal pain, and genital pain.

2. The second group includes conditions characterized by obstructive symptoms such as urinary retention or difficulty in voiding, caused by obstructive factors like an enlarged prostate, urethral strictures, stones, or tumors in the bladder or urethra. It also includes disorders related to altered function of the neurogenic bladder or neurogenic detrusor underactivity with almost complete obstruction.

Neuro-urology addresses problems related to the pelvic floor, including chronic pelvic and perineal pain, male sexual dysfunction such as sexual desire disorders, erectile dysfunction, structural abnormalities affecting sexual intercourse, ejaculation disorders, and orgasmic disorders.

In female urology, various types of urinary incontinence (urge incontinence, stress incontinence, mixed incontinence), pelvic organ prolapse (cystocele, uterine prolapse, urethrocele), and fistulas are treated.

In summary, neuro-urology and pelvic floor dysfunction focus on diagnosing and treating functional disorders in the urinary system, including overactivity and obstructive symptoms, as well as addressing pelvic floor-related issues in both men and women.
