Jaw Joint Surgeries

TMJ Arthrocentesis:

TMJ Arthrocentesis is performed as an outpatient surgical procedure under local anesthesia in our clinic, sometimes with the assistance of sedation. Fasting is not required unless sedation is planned. The patient is asked to bring their night splint with them.

It is recommended to remain under observation and rest for about one to two hours after the procedure. In the weeks following the arthrocentesis, the patient will be asked to perform self-physiotherapy at home according to specific instructions.

TMJ Arthroscopy:

TMJ Arthroscopy is performed under general anesthesia in the general operating room. It can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. The patient needs to stay under recovery and observation for about 12 hours after the procedure.

In the weeks following the arthroscopy, the patient will be asked to perform self-physiotherapy or with the assistance of a physiotherapist.

Different types of open surgeries for the TMJ are also available in our department, including TMJ replacement. The surgeries are individually tailored to each patient's needs.
