About
The Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center offers advice and surgical treatment for all problems related to the oral cavity, jaws, face and neck.
Our staff have rich experience in all aspects of this field.
We perform surgery with either general or local anesthetic. In the case of general anesthetic, the patient must come for a pre-op examination at the unit – and sometimes even another visit to see the anesthetist. This is dependent on the patient’s medical condition.
Patients referred by their family doctor or another Kupat Holim doctor must pay for the examination at the clinic. Some of our work is covered by Kupat Holim guarantees so please obtain the correct guarantee for your examination.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea Syndrome is defined as a break in breathing or a reduction in oxygen saturation of more than 4% for at least 10 seconds during sleep. The definition of a break in breathing as an illness means at least five breathing breaks per hour during sleep. People considered at risk for this are: men, those overweight, adults, smokers, those with short and wide neck structure. Similarly, Retrognatia (abnormal posterior mandibular positioning) also increases the risk.
