The Pediatric Anesthetization Unit

About

The Pediatric Anesthetization Unit specializes in sedating children before surgical procedures or minor ambulatory procedures such as bronchoscopy, gastroscopy, angiography, catheterization, CT and MRI. The anesthetization team accompanies the child from the preparation stage – as appropriate to the particular surgery and the child’s medical situation – through to recovery. The unit also hosts medical clowns, whose function is to help the child feel secure before the anesthesia and the surgery.

The anesthetist’s main role is to make sure the child is in a state of deep sleep devoid of any disturbances or discomfort during the surgery. Decisions regarding anesthesia type and dosage will be determined by the child’s weight, age and medical situation. Throughout the operation, the team constantly monitors breathing, blood pressure and pulse and do their best to prevent any pain or nausea after the surgery.
