Psychiatric Consultation

The Psychiatry Consultation Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center provides counseling and diagnosis for patients dealing with psychological imbalance alongside physical illness. The unit also offers support to the families of patients and assists in communication and support throughout the treatment.

The unit collaborates closely with all departments in the hospital, including the triage room, and helps the medical team communicate empathetically and provide support to patients facing mental challenges. There is multidisciplinary cooperation with the medical team, nursing staff, psychological services, and social services to ensure optimal patient care during hospitalization and discharge planning.

Additionally, the unit assists with referrals to the Family Court / General Guardianship in cases where the patient lacks decision-making capacity for invasive procedures or outpatient frameworks.

The Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic responds to urgent cases, providing intervention during crises within both public and private settings. Patients with various conditions receive assistance for issues such as post-traumatic stress, postnatal depression, anxiety, acute psychosis, bipolar disorder, and more.

The unit works in close collaboration with various outpatient clinics, including hematology, oncology, surgery, and others. It is also an integral part of the Memory Clinic, participating in team meetings and discussions concerning patients at different stages of memory decline.

The unit guides fifth-year medical students from the Hebrew University's Faculty of Medicine during their psychiatry rotation, and actively participates in the training of psychiatry residents. Furthermore, the unit is involved in research in the field of psychiatry, with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress.

The experienced unit staff provides treatment for all mental health issues, focusing on psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions. Much of the work is based on dialogues with patients and their families to alleviate mental suffering and assist in crisis resolution.
