Laboratory

The Molecular Hematology Laboratory is an integral part of the advanced Hematology array at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, and it constitutes an innovative branch of the medical center. The laboratory's team and researchers are highly skilled and professional, adhering to high standards and the accreditation requirements of the Genetics Institute.

Recipients of the laboratory's services include the Hematology Department, the Genetics Institute of the Medical Center, other hospitals, health funds, private physicians, biotechnology entrepreneurs, research institutions, and more.

Structure and Purpose of the Laboratory:

The laboratory encompasses a wide variety of tests, including performing urgent molecular and genetic tests, extensive cytogenetic tests, karyotyping, sequence analysis, and structural genome analysis in adult oncology patients. It also conducts periodic molecular and cytogenetic monitoring, diagnostic oncological molecular scans, and hereditary and pharmacokinetic analyses. The laboratory works collaboratively with the Cell Characterization, Cytology, and Morphology Unit of the bone marrow.

The primary goal of the laboratory is to provide comprehensive and swift answers that enable an accurate diagnosis of the patient, personalized treatment planning for recovery and rehabilitation based on the principles of personalized medicine, and monitoring of minimal residual disease (MRD).

Quality Assurance:

The laboratory performs internal and external quality assurance programs. Internally, quality assurance plans are implemented for each specific test and device used in the laboratory, including running controls, documenting control data, and recording malfunctions that occur during the work process. The laboratory participates in various external quality assurance programs that examine the accuracy and quality of the test results.

Academic Activity:

The laboratory engages in extensive research and academic activity in the fields of hemato-oncology, clonality, and genome stability. It guides graduate and postgraduate students in collaboration with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The laboratory researchers also collaborate with leading academic institutions both in Israel and worldwide, including the Hebrew University, Weizmann Institute of Science, Tel Aviv University, Technion Faculty of Medicine, Northwestern University Chicago, IL, Baylor College, Texas, and others.
