CT provides extensive information and is used for the evaluation of the chest, abdomen, brain, skull, ears, lymph nodes, and more. The test involves low-dose radiation, so CT scans are performed only when necessary, especially in children.

At the Imaging Department of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, there is an innovative and advanced CT scanner called Siemens Somaton Force. Thanks to its unique dual energy technology, the examination can be conducted with minimal radiation exposure, providing highly detailed images. The amount of radiation is significantly lower compared to other devices, making it suitable for infants as well, reducing the need for sedation in many cases. However, if needed, the test can be performed under sedation by a skilled pediatrician.

Some examinations may require the use of contrast material, which is administered orally or through the veins, depending on the type of examination.

CT Scans without Sedation:

On the scheduled day of the examination, you should arrive at the CT Department on the 2nd floor of Shaare Zedek Medical Center to complete the necessary paperwork. When it's your child's turn, they will undergo the examination. The parent can stay with the child during the test (except if pregnant) wearing a lead apron. The examination is very brief and does not cause any pain to the child.

After the examination, you will be free to return home.

CT Scans with Sedation:

On the scheduled day, you should arrive at the Pediatric Day Hospital on the 2nd floor of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where the medical team will prepare the child for sedation. Subsequently, you will proceed to the CT Department. The actual CT scan is very brief and painless for the child. Sedation will be performed by the pediatrician in the examination room.

Shortly after the examination, the child will wake up. They will spend some time in the Pediatric Day Hospital and will be discharged by the doctor.
