Cardiac Catheterization

In the Catheterization Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, we, as a multidisciplinary medical and technical team, provide you with care and treatment in our center of activity around the clock.

Our goal is to offer you the highest level of care using the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. We ensure that our medical staff, trained at some of the world's finest institutions, adhere to high standards in these procedures.

The unit is widely recognized for its excellence by various organizations and is invited regularly to present cases and procedures in live broadcasts at major international conferences.

The unit is located on the 10th floor of the main hospital building.

Department Team:

Our team includes specialized doctors in catheterizations, fellows, nurses, paramedical and radiology technicians. Patients come to the catheterization procedures from various hospital departments, the sorting room, the intensive cardiac care unit, and even from home.

Catheterization Procedures:

In the unit, we perform a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for various heart diseases, including:

  1. Diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations for chest pain and heart attack patients, including complex procedures where catheterization is performed instead of open-heart surgery.
  2. Israel's largest unit for treating structural heart problems, including TAVI, Mitral Clip, and balloon valvuloplasty.
  3. Advanced procedures in structural heart disease, including stent implantation without leaving a foreign body, modifications of leaflets (including Lepellex, Sortech, Basilica, and more), and alternative approaches to transcatheter and transaxillary stent implantation.
  4. Treatment of chronic total occlusioand ns (CTO) in arteries.
  5. Advanced procedures in complex coronary artery diseases, including rotablation, CSI, laser shockwave.
  6. Utilization of advanced intravascular imaging, including FFR, IVUS, and OCT.
  7. Advanced physiological assessment for non-obstructive flow disorders in arteries.
  8. Catheterizations for peripheral artery diseases.
  9. Management of resistant hypertension with renal denervation.
  10. Dynamic support with advanced technologies: Impella, ECMO, IABP.
  11. Treatment of structural heart problems: LAA, ASD, VSD, PFO.
  12. Biopsy samples (biopsies) from the heart muscle.
  13. Therapeutic catheterizations for respiratory support.
  14. Diagnostic dynamic catheterizations for heart failure patients.

The Stay in the Unit:

Patients arrive at the Catheterization Unit's reception, where the receiving nurse provides preparation for the planned procedures, including a discussion with the treating doctors

After completing the planned procedures, patients return to the reception area for monitoring and recovery until the next day, after which they are discharged. In certain cases, patients are transferred for further observation in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit or the inpatient department.

Patients recovering from procedures are usually discharged a few hours after the procedure, in the morning, following a discussion with the treating doctor. Upon discharge, the nurse in the Catheterization Unit will explain the recommended follow-up care at home.

We are here for you.

In the wishes of robust health,

Dr. Danny Devir, Director of Interventional Cardiology and Catheterization Laboratories and the Catheterization Unit Team
