Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Test

This test is a very effective tool in the field of sports medicine. Our staff can use its results to plan for you an accurate personal menu along with a tailored training program, based on your personal data and needs. The test can help supervise the process of reaching the target weight in a safe and effective manner, and of course it helps to maintain the desired weight over time.

For whom is the test intended?

This test is designed for anyone interested in receiving nutritional advice on weight loss or maintaining a specific weight; those seeking to gain weight (athletes, teens) are advised to take the test, as well as professional and amateur athletes who want to design a dietary program to change body composition (reducing fat mass, increasing muscle mass). For children who are overweight, the test enables us to determine the child's precise energy needs, thus planning weight loss without adversely affecting development.

What is RMR?

Our bodies are subject to constant physiological processes (during rest, our daily routine, and physical training) involving energy expenditure. In fact, about 60-70% of our daily calorie expenditure is due to the basic existence of body tissues and the activity of physiological systems during a state of complete rest.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is a concept that refers to the energy expenditure required by the body for proper basic functioning during rest. The metabolic rate varies from person to person because it is influenced by many variables such as: genetic characteristics, build (weight, height), body composition (fat and muscular mass), age, sex, hormone levels and more. In order to lose weight, you need to create a negative energy balance in which the body's energy expenditure is greater than its intake. For this, we need precise calculations – both energy consumption and energy expenditure. Energy is obtained in the body through food, and calorie consumption can be calculated accurately using computer software. The energy expenditure (metabolic rate) is calculated using a machine test RMR.

How do we conduct the test?

The test is conducted in the morning, after an overnight fast, when the patient lies awake, relaxed, while connected to a metabolic system. The system measures oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, and accurately calculates RMR based on this data.
