Non-Invasive Prenatal Test - NIPT

A non-invasive test for the identification of chromosomal problems in the fetus. The test has a higher credibility rate than the existing screening tests for Down syndrome and can be done starting at week 10 of the pregnancy. The test uses DNA sequencing to assess the number of DNA segments and their chromosomal attribution.
The NIPT can identify Down syndrome (trisomy 21) with over 99% certainty along with other common syndromes such as trisomy 18 and trisomy 13 that cause mental retardation and many defect. The test can also identify disorders caused by problems in the sex chromosomes, including Turner syndrome (lack of an X chromosome in females) and Klinefelter's syndrome (an additional X chromosome in males) that can manifest themselves in learning disabilities and other problems.
To undergo this test and for more information, please schedule an appointment at the Bereshit Clinic.
