The lab performs tests to locate numerical and structural chromosomal changes:
- Prenatal diagnosis - karyotype to locate chromosomal changes in samples of amniotic fluid and chorionic villus sampling.
- Karyotype tests on blood samples to locate chromosomal syndromes.
- Location of syndromes caused by microdeletions using the FISH method (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization).
- Characterizing the chromosomal composition of abortion byproducts, stem cell lines and other tissues.
The Cytogenetic Lab at Shaare Zedek Medical Center is licensed by the Ministry of Health and successfully participates in international quality control checks.
